Lötschental

The Lötschental is certainly one of the most beautiful valleys in the Valais and is nestled between the Bernese and Valais Alps in the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site. The valley is around 30 kilometres long, making it the largest of the Valais side valleys branching off to the north of the Rhone. The wild river "Lonza", which rises at the Langgletscher and flows into the Rhone south of Gampel, rushes through the entire Lötschental.

The magical valley, as the Lötschental is also known, impresses with its unique natural beauty, such as the Bietschhorn or the Lötschenlücke, and captivates with its rustic charm. What counts is the unspoilt nature, tranquillity and relaxation in a wonderful mountain world.

Until the opening of the Lötschberg tunnel in 1913, the Lötschental was very difficult to reach - to the benefit of nature and customs. The villages of Ferden, Kippel, Wiler and Blatten have been known as summer holiday resorts for a relatively long time and are the centres of tourist activity in the Lötschental. The communities of the Lötschental are strung together village by village and are located on the sunny slopes above the Lonza. The development of the Lötschental
