Welcome to Rattenberg – a state-approved resort!

The state-approved resort of Rattenberg is located in the northern part of the Straubing-Bogen district, near the towns of Viechtach and Kötzting. The town is situated 560 metres above sea level on a south-facing slope. The surrounding mountains rise to 1,000 metres. 100 kilometres of marked hiking trails allow nature lovers to explore the beauty of the landscape. Numerous benches at beautiful vantage points with views over the entire Bavarian Forest invite you to linger. Special sights: castle ruins with pilgrimage church, legendary rock formation known as the Devil's Mill, forest nature trail, local history museum, vintage Bulldog tractor museum, clock museum.

Rattenberg has won many awards for its townscape, sports and leisure facilities and natural surroundings.

Leisure activities: Sports centre (tennis, asphalt curling lanes, football pitch), 2 children's playgrounds, 2 Kneipp treadmills, 2 federal bowling alleys, campsite, horse-drawn carriage rides, horse and pony riding through the beautiful Perlbachtal valley. 16 km of cross-country skiing trails contribute to an eventful and relaxing winter holiday. In addition, the Sankt Englmar ski centre is only a few kilometres away. Hotels and inns offer indoor swimming pools with steam baths and whirlpools, saunas and solariums. The annual Heimatfest (local festival) on the first weekend in July and the annual demonstration of old crafts on 15 August have already become a tradition.
