Elbigenalp – The Cultural and Woodcarving Village of the Lechtal Valley

Elbigenalp is regarded as the cultural heart of the Lechtal Valley, combining living traditions with impressive alpine scenery. Situated at an altitude of 1,040 metres, the village is an ideal starting point for numerous activities in the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps. Reutte is approximately 36 kilometres away, while the renowned winter sports resort of Lech am Arlberg is about 30 kilometres from the village.

As a village of woodcarving and theatre, Elbigenalp is well known far beyond the region. Its traditional carving school has shaped the character of the village for generations, alongside a vibrant cultural and craft scene. Elbigenalp is also closely linked to the story of the famous “Geierwally” and is considered the birthplace of the celebrated literary figure.

In summer, visitors can enjoy a wide range of leisure activities, including hiking and mountain tours, cycling and mountain biking routes, tennis, paragliding, swimming, as well as art and woodcarving courses.

Winter also offers plenty of opportunities for active holidays. Cross-country ski trails, winter hiking paths, ski lifts, a ski school, a toboggan run, horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice skating and curling provide memorable experiences in the snow-covered alpine landscape.
