To the east, Santa Maria offers warm, pale-sand beaches and terraced vineyards shaped like a giant amphitheatre. On São Miguel, the largest island, nature reveals its force and charm through volcanic lakes like Sete Cidades and Fogo, geysers, and hot springs. Don’t miss “Cozido das Furnas” – a traditional stew slow-cooked underground.

In the central group, the islands of Terceira, São Jorge, Pico, Faial, and Graciosa spread across the sea like jewels. Whale and dolphin sightings add magic to the journey. Terceira’s Angra do Heroísmo, a UNESCO site, echoes with history, while Faial charms with blue hydrangeas, a colourful marina, and the moonlike Capelinhos volcano. Pico rises majestically from the ocean, its vineyards on black lava fields also a World Heritage Site. São Jorge is known for its dramatic Fajãs and unique cheese. Graciosa lives up to its name – graceful and green, dotted with windmills and vineyards.

To the west, Flores is a haven of waterfalls and crater lakes, while tiny Corvo boasts a majestic central caldera and rare birdlife from both Europe and America.
