The route starts at the Bad Colberg Tourist Information, where you can park for free. Then you climb uphill to Tonberg and halfway switch to the Promenadenweg, an old spa area path considered gentle on the joints. At the top, a shelter offers the opportunity for a short break.
The path continues through the Pfaffenholz forest to the narrow street at the white stone. There you turn right and pass the Green House, a former hunting equipment house of the princes and dukes, now used as a shelter.
Downhill on the asphalt road towards Billmuthausen, the tour soon turns left onto a forest path. After about 200m, you reach the destination: the Fürstenbrunnen.
Duke Johann Casimir of Saxe-Coburg had the spring enclosed in 1588 to have drinking water and to water horses during hunting. He shared his passion for hunting with numerous rulers of neighboring territories, whom he often invited to his hunting grounds. During his reign, the Heldburg fortress took on the character of a hunting lodge, to which his successor, Ernest the Pious of Saxe-Gotha (1644-1675), also contributed. Over time, the spring and resting place have been repeatedly renovated and have become a popular hiking destination today.
After a lengthy rest, proceed back to Billmuthausen street. Follow it downhill to the left and then turn right at the Schlangenweg pond. The Schlangenweg leads back to the forest crossing in Pfaffenholz. From there, you head over Tonberg, optionally via the circular route, back to Bad Colberg, the starting point.
