Starting in the spa zone along the Herrensee, the hike leads us through the typical Waldviertel landscape, sometimes uphill, sometimes downhill around the air spa town, giving us the opportunity to discover this charming combination of forests, meadows, fields, ponds, and the dark green moss-covered stone giants. A special example is the Altarstein, a 1.5-meter large sacrificial stone made of granite from the Celtic period. At the Kufsteinteich, besides various tree species, you can also admire the undoubtedly largest insect hotel in Litschau. Do you know which is your personal tree of life? The tree horoscope reveals it here! Before returning to the Herrensee, you pass the birthplace of probably the most famous personality of Litschau, Kaspar Schrammel, the founder of Schrammelmusik.
The hike leads us along the Herrensee through the beach, then uphill to the right past the golf course over Hörmannstraße and along a field edge to the forest edge. Once downhill to the left, once uphill to the right, the path soon leads straight through forest, fields, and meadows. Passing the Litschau model airfield, you then reach a small settlement after the Burgerteich. After crossing it, a detour to the Altarstein is worthwhile. Then it continues over the Föhrenteich towards Schönau; on the way, the walker notices an original barn. Quickly crossing the small village, then along part of the Schönauer Teich, and already walking on the edge of the Langauer Forest to the Kufsteinteich. To the right of its dam is the forest nature trail with its man-high insect hotel and the tree horoscope. Across the road towards Schlag, we then go through the forest to the Heidestraße settlement, a little further on you discover the Kaspar Schrammel birthplace (commemorative plaque on the house wall). First left, then right, the path turns towards the forest; a steep forest path then leads down to the Herrensee and back along it to the starting point of the hike.
Sturdy footwear, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, maps, if necessary telescopic poles, first aid kit (blister plasters), sufficient provisions (snacks, muesli bars, fruit, water).
