There is much to discover in Schönenberg-Kübelberg: the hiking trails of the Walkable History Book, for example, or the beer cellar, which offer exciting insights into the history of the region. The railway track initially offers undisturbed cycling pleasure. Partly on the embankment, partly shaded in a cutting, the path leads from Schönenberg-Kübelberg past Elschbach station and through a large tunnel structure. Over 150m long and more than 100 years old, the tunnel is protected by a housing as icicles up to 3m long can form in winter. Sunglass wearers beware! Despite lighting, it is noticeably darker in the tunnel than on the path.
The next location reached is Nanzdietschweiler and shortly thereafter Glan-Münchweiler.
Here you can admire the Four-God Stones - Juno, Mercury with Caduceus, Minerva, and Hercules - and two medieval stone sarcophagi. Parallel to the railway line - again operated from Glan-Münchweiler - the cycle path continues through Rehweiler and Matzenbach to Theisbergstegen. Storks are often observed in the meadows here because a breeding station, staffed all year round, has been established in Theisbergstegen.
The next section runs through the area of a former quarry. Here it crosses the Remigius hiking trail, which leads up a fascinating educational trail to Remigiusberg or, in the other direction, to the wild park on the Potzberg.
By bike, continue to Altenglan and next to the rail cycle draisine station to Bedesbach.
In Bedesbach, the Old Forge reveals the high craftsmanship required to hammer simple everyday objects. (Visits possible by appointment) Now it is not far to the stage destination Ulmet. The small town lies peacefully on the Glan. The field chapel outside the town with a tower from the 11th century is worth a visit.
WATCH OUT! - Campaign for respectful coexistence in nature
- Always behave attentively, kindly, and respectfully toward everyone you meet on the way.
- Respect nature, do not destroy plants, and always stay on the paths.
- Remember to carry a rubbish bag and take your waste back home with you.
- Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.
- For your safety, observe all path closures, even on weekends.
- Park only in designated parking areas. Leave space for emergency routes and agricultural machinery.
- Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic.
From Schönenberg-Kübelberg, follow the track of the former Glantal railway straight ahead with only a few road crossings. The tunnel at Elschbach switches on lights via a motion detector, but it is still noticeably darker inside than outside - please be careful! In Nanzdietschweiler, the track runs straight through the village near the Kurpfalzhalle with two steep ramps, as the old bridge is no longer there. The route continues on the railway track to Glan-Münchweiler. The crossing of the still operated railway line from Kaiserslautern to Kusel is secured by quite narrow automatic barriers. From Glan-Münchweiler to Rehweiler, a new cycle path has been built alongside the railway; in Rehweiler, cross the railway to the left and follow a field service road to Matzenbach. Behind Matzenbach, continue on a little-used road via Godelhausen to Theisbergstegen. Passing the station through the former quarry area, you reach Altenglan. The path leads onto the federal road that describes an S-curve here between Altenglan and the district of Mühlbach - directly after the curve turn left onto the railway path and then continue straight past the station. Via Bedesbach and Erdesbach, the route continues on paved paths and local roads to Ulmet.

For our cycling routes, we recommend the following equipment as standard:
- Wearing a helmet
- Clothing adapted to the weather
- Sun and rain protection
- Sufficient supply of food and drinks, as refreshment or shopping options are not available or open everywhere.
- Although the paths are very well marked throughout, it is advisable for safety reasons to always carry a suitable
cycling map, so that, for example, you can quickly find a safe area in case of a thunderstorm or an emergency.
General information:
Particularly in autumn, it is important to pay attention that fallen leaves on the ground can conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees can still topple or branches fall afterward. In adverse weather conditions, natural paths may have muddy and slippery sections. You must expect such path impairments when undertaking a cycling tour. If you feel that certain sections are not passable, you should avoid them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where cycle paths are closed, and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a path closure or detour, please observe the notices for your own safety.
The road traffic regulations must be observed!
The tunnel at Elschbach is illuminated but on sunny days the difference between "outside" and "inside" is immense - please remove sunglasses in advance and reduce speed.
The side paths of the bridges are sometimes very narrow, please ride carefully and observe signage.
In Nanzdietschweiler, there are two steep ramps secured by revolving gates. These are difficult to pass with wider vehicles (e.g. recumbent tricycles), in which case it is advisable to bypass this area via the village roads.
