Karlsaue park invites visitors to stroll and relax in a beautiful historical setting
Tucked away at the southern end of Karlsaue is a gem of landscape gardening: Siebenbergen, the »island of flowers«.

Karlsaue park

A few steps from Kassel´s city centre one can find the spacious karlsaue park. The huge park with about 150 ha ins size invites for relaxing walks, sport and exploration.
Next to Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, the State Park of Karlsaue is the second great park in Kassel that is maintained by Museumslandschaft Hessen Kassel. Situated between Rosenhang and the Fulda river, the park, which is currently about 150 ha in size, adjoins both the Kassel city centre and the Orangery Palace, and invites visitors to stroll and relax in a beautiful historical setting.

Originally laid out around 1700 as a symmetrical Baroque garden with basins and a fan-shaped system of canals, Karlsaue was redesigned as a landscape park at the end of the 18th century. However, the Baroque vistas and structuring axes are still visible, and still defining the layout, today.

At the park's southern end is the Siebenbergen Isle, or »Island of Flowers« in recognition of its magnificent bloom in spring and summer. Picturesque botanical variety is maintained and cared for both in the park and on the island.
